The INEGI – Institute of Science and Innovation in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering is a Technology and Innovation Center (CTI), established in 1986, focused on conducting research and innovation activities in technological fields, technology transfer, consulting, and technological services, aimed at supporting the development of industry and the economy in general. It is a private, non-profit public utility institution.

INEGI is composed of several specialized units in scientific and technological areas that support research activities. Complementing these, there are Innovation, Consulting, and Service activities, all dedicated to developing solutions for companies.

INEGI also leads and is a key member of LAETA – the Associated Laboratory for Energy, Transport, and Aerospace, which operates on a national scale and includes research areas from the Mechanical Engineering Institute – Instituto Superior Técnico (IDMEC – IST), the Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics (ADAI) at the University of Coimbra, and the Aeronautics and Astronautics Research Group at the University of Beira Interior (AeroG).
