Centro de Monitorização e Interpretação Ambiental (CMIA) de Vila do Conde
The CMIA is a municipal equipment coordinated, at a technical-scientific level, by the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIIMAR) of the University of Porto.
Its main objectives are to contribute to increasing public knowledge and awareness in different areas of the environment. To this end, it promotes and develops information, training, research, monitoring, awareness and education initiatives, as well as producing scientific, technical and teaching materials.
It thus constitutes an equipment of excellence and reference in the area of environmental literacy and, consequently, in the pursuit of the desired sustainable development.
The CMIA of Vila do Conde is also a Blue Center, a structure where information is provided and Environmental Education activities are carried out. Promotes an Environmental Education Program within the scope of the Blue Flag. These activities are developed on our coast and aim to contribute to increasing literacy linked to the Ocean, and include several activities such as Exploratory routes in the intertidal zone, coastline and in the Regional Protected Landscape of the Vila do Conde Coast and Mindelo Ornithological Reserve; Exhibitions; Environmental Education Workshops and recreational-pedagogical games.
